Awal Sejarah
John Vesely membentuk Secondhand Serenade di kota tempat ia tinggal, Menlo Park di California, Amerika Serikat, pada tahun 2004. Vesely dibesarkan di San Francisco Bay Area di keluarga musik dan sebagai anak dari seorang ayah musisi jazz profesional, berkomentar bahwa "masuk ke musik adalah hal yang alami" baginya.

Awake re-release (2007-2009)
Di awal tahun 2007, Awake menerbitkan kembali oleh Glassnote Records dengan dua lagu tambahan. A Twist in My Story (2008-2009)
A Twist in My Story dirilis pada tanggal 19 Februari 2008 dan lagu fitur dari Awake seperti "Maybe" dan "Your Call" namun di produksi ulang dengan band. Sebagian besar album adalah lagu baru yang ditulis oleh John Vesely dan dicatat dengan band. Dua trek pada A Twist in My Story diproduksi oleh produsen terkenal Butch Walker, sementara yang lain diproduksi oleh mantan anggota Nine Inch Nails Danny Lohner. Single pertama, "Fall for You,"dirilis 21 Januari 2008. Album ini bocor, dan dibuat tersedia untuk di-download satu bulan sebelum rilis resmi. Pada tanggal 28 Januari 2008, video musik untuk single pertama dari album "Fall for You" perdana di acara MTV TRL. Untuk mendukung rilis, Secondhand Serenade menghabiskan sebagian besar bulan Maret dan April untuk tur dengan band-band Amerika Making April, Automatic Loveletter, dan Tie The Affair Putih. Hear Me Now (2010-sekarang)
Album studio ketiga Secondhand Serenade yang berjudul Hear Me Now, yang dirilis pada tanggal 3 Agustus 2010. daftar lagu album tersebut juga telah diumumkan. "Something More" will debut at 7:40AM on May 17th on Kid Kraddick's nationally syndicated radio show and will be available at iTunes on June 1st. |
Pada tanggal 1 Juni, "Something More" dirilis ke iTunes sebagai deluxe single dengan bonus lagu "You Are A Drug", sebuah video menunjukkan pembuatan "Something More", dan digital booklet untuk single baru. Pada tanggal 21 Juli saat tur di Dallas, Vesely mengumumkan bahwa sebuah paket lagu yang dapat didownload untuk Rock Band akan tersedia segera, yang menampilkan beberapa hits Secondhand Serenade termasuk "Fall For You". Pada tanggal 27 Juli Vesely menambahkan sebelas trek dari album baru nya Myspace dan membuat lagu itu tersedia untuk streaming bagi penggemar. Banyak dari lagu-lagu ini juga bocor ke situs seperti Youtube. Vesely berencana untuk merilis sebuah EP mengikuti tur saat ini menampilkan semua lagu akustik baru.
